Once Radhanath Swami told me that I wear dhoti and kurta, traditional Vedic attire, for temple festivals. A casual suggestion from his side, it felt like a golden opportunity from my perspective. Here was a chance to please him, to reciprocate with the shower of his selfless affection. I adapted myself to the new wears.
Later, I discovered that all my friends had a similar dhoti-kurta story.
I mulled over it. Most aspects of Vedic culture are too alien in the modern context. Though they might appeal to the intellect, to adapt to any of them is hard without the motivating factors of inspiration and love.

No doubt,the temple atmosphere is sanctified and auspecious.However,over and above this the vedic dress code gives sanctified and holy look to the whole setting.

Thank you Dr. Sankhe for sharing this story. I think all those who call themselves ‘Radha Gopinath Devotees’ should take these words of Radhanath Swami seriously. In one satsang Radhanath Swami said “if you are coming from home and visiting a satsang (and don’t plan to go anywhere else), you should wear dhoti and kurta” On another occasion he said “this is the dress that Prabhupad gave me, how can i say no to it”

Thank you HH Radhanath Swami Maharaj for watering the roots of Radha Gopinath Temple, a tree planted by Srila Prabhupad, with nectar of devotional discourses. The branches (your disciples) of this tree have spread very widely around the world and are giving shelter to many fallen jivas like me.

Radhanath Maharaj is such a wonderful teacher and guide. He never imposes any thing forcefully on anybody but politely requests his devotees to do what is right.
I had heard a similar thing that Maharaj had requested ladies to wear sarees. And when somebody stated that its little uncomfortable, he promptly replied ” Do you think think our dhotis are comfortable, yet we wear it to please Krsna”.
